Meet Scott
MyTobii lets your personality shine through
Scott McGuire is a loving husband and father in his early forties. He has an upbeat personality, appreciates socializing and living life to the fullest. Scott has been living with ALS for over ten years, gradually losing control over his limbs and voice. But thanks to MyTobii P10, an eye controlled communication device, he can reach out again.

“My name is Scott McGuire. I've been married to my wife, Heidi for 13 years and we have a 4-year-old son, Gavin. I live at home and have in-home nursing care. I have an upbeat personality and I've always been outgoing, happy, competitive and a glass-half-full-type of guy. I enjoy socializing with friends and family. I enjoy watching sports and movies. I used to enjoy outdoor recreation of all types: mountain biking, fishing, hiking, yard work. I also enjoyed teaching and coaching."
"My interests today include watching my son grow up, working on my computer, designing all types of media, fantasy football, on-line poker, and keeping in touch with family and friends through email and Facebook.”
Fast and effortless communication
“I was diagnosed in November '97. No known cause why certain people get ALS, just lucky I guess. Today I can only move my face a little bit. But I still have my wits about me!”
Eye control has brought Scott back up to speed in his communication, something that means a great deal to him. He can now communicate with people outside his immediate sphere and with much fewer misunderstandings. In his own words:
“The MyTobii allows me to communicate with people who don't normally know what I'm saying.”
Computer access and distraction
Being able to have meaningful face-to-face interaction is one thing. The other thing that Scott appreciates is the possibility to read news, search for information, chat with peers, listen to music, shop and play games. Through the Internet he has the same access as everyone else to entertainment and social interaction. But in Scott’s case, it is so much more valuable.
Most importantly however:
“I've been able to recapture a little of my old self and personality, thanks to the MyTobii.”
