Tobii Eye Control Demonstrated by Microsoft at Computex
Eye control is one of many computer interfaces that will be available to users in the future. At Computex in Taipei, visitors can test the feature personally in the Microsoft booth where eye control from the Swedish company Tobii Technology is demonstrated.
Eye control is an intuitive and natural user interface that, in combination with other interaction modes, radically improves the user experience. Entirely effortless, it enables automatic processes based on your attention and gaze. Since the computer knows where you are looking it becomes more responsive to your intentions: Text scrolls automatically as you read, and information is shown in relation to what you pay attention to.
“Computer manufacturers are working intensively to integrate new and intuitive interaction interfaces. Eye control is one such technology. Tobii’s eye controlled computers are already used by thousands of people with physical and speech impairments around the globe and will, in a near future, become a natural part of a regular PC environment. To reach this point, it is essential that we collaborate with major players,” said John Elvesjo, CTO and Founder of Tobii Technology.
At Computex, Microsoft will demonstrate eye control from Tobii in an intuitive and instant setup that requires no settings or calibration. Simply place yourself in front of the screen and start to interact by using your eyes. Computex will take place in Taipei from June 1-5, 2010 . Microsoft has a booth in the NanGang Exhibition Hall L0108.
“Windows 7 opens a world of opportunity for hardware manufacturers, software developers and service providers, and Computex gives us an opportunity to demonstrate what is possible,” said Murray Vince, General Manager, original equipment manufacturer division, Microsoft Corp. “Tobii’s eye tracking and eye control products provide a natural user interface and enable rich new computing scenarios; we are thrilled to be collaborating with them.”
Tobii’s eye trackers can also be seen at The World Expo 2010 in Shanghai from May 1 through October 31, 2010.
